The INTEGRA Foundation invites you:
workshop INTEGRA XI
Stupava, Slovakia
SEMINAR PROGRAMME
Main theme:
Creating Community Impact Enterprises in Central Europe
The need:
Mature companies in OECD countries are growing in their commitment toward responsible community participation. This community participation can take many forms: financial contributions, preferential employment of the disadvantaged, opposing corruption and promoting ethical business behaviour, volunteer participation in community activities, etc. Most Central European businesses, both large firms and SMEs, do not see the full potential of their role as responsible community participants. This workshop is designed to introduce and interact over a range of community involvements that companies can have, from the smallest microenterprise to large multinationals. In addition to examine the community roles that normal businesses can play, we will introduce a very specific type of company, the Community Purpose Enterprise, which is a for-profit enterprise with a social purpose.
Workshop goals:
*To explore practical ways your company can serve your community
*To discover and promote best practice in Community Purpose Enterprise creation
*To create strategic linkages between Central European and western businesses
*To build bridges between the profit and non-profit sector in working for the good of their common communities
*To initiate a network of companies, NGOs and public agencies interested in enhancing enterprise community initiatives.
Seminar themes:
1.What is a community purpose enterprise?
2.Companies and corruption
3.Marketplace efficiency versus community involvement?
4.Social audit...what, how and when?
5.Resources for managers...where to go for help?
6.A new paradigm...introducing the double bottom line
7.Case studies in best practice from Central Europe, Western Europe and North America

Royal Musical Association in association with
King's College Institute of Advanced Musical Studies presents:
Music and Metropolis:
Recontextualising Krenek and Weill
The Year 2000 marks the centenary of the births of Ernst Krenek (August) and Kurt Weill (March). Conceived in part as a commemoration, in part as a means of drawing musicological attention to the significance of the modern urban landscape in shaping the production and reception of 20th century musical modernism, this one-day conference will explore music theater works of both composers from the 1920s to the mid 1930s. It will seek to recontextualise aspects of and perspectives on these works against the backdrop of not only the physical environments of the modernist metropolis, but also of the forms of identity, social interaction and cultural production, the search for pleasure and the struggle for political self-realisation constructed by the rhythms and responses to modern urban life. Just as Lang's iconic film Metropolis (1926) is a futuristic vision set around the year 2000, the conference will, furthermore, consider whether any significant conclusions can be drawn from revisiting the music and ideas of Krenek and Weill for out own times.
